Overwhelmed? Take Small Steps

Overwhelmed? Take Small Steps

Take small daily steps.

If the task of teaching Scripture at times feels a little overwhelming, it is good to remember this time-honoured reflection from Jewish tradition:

‘Why is Torah compared to a fig tree?’

One reply . . .

‘Because the fruit of most trees – the olive tree, vine, the date – is gathered all at once, while the fruit of the fig tree
is picked little by little. It is the same with the Torah. For you cannot learn the whole Torah at once, but only gradually, little by little, over an entire lifetime.’
