The Catholic Bible includes additional books in the Old Testament not included in most Protestant Bibles. These seven additional books of the Old Testament are known as the deuterocanonical books and include Sirach, Tobit, Wisdom, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, and Baruch. The Jerusalem Bible translation is used in the Catholic liturgy.

Through the generosity of Fr Harry Davis’ estate, the Diocese of Broken Bay is able to offer parishioners of the Diocese a selection of bibles at an affordable price, starting from $14. Click here for more information

Catholic Gift Bible (New Revised Standard Version)

Available in black or white imitation leather

The New Revised Standard Version is a trusted, accepted, accurate English translation of the Holy Bible widely used in the Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay.  “The NRSV stands out among the many translations because it is “as literal as possible” in adhering to the ancient texts and only “as free as necessary” to make the meaning clear in graceful, understandable English. It draws on newly available sources that increase our understanding of many previously obscure biblical passages.” The NRSV uses inclusive language, “…making it clear where the original texts intend to include all humans, male and female, and where they intend to refer only to the male or female gender.” (BibleGateway)

The Catholic Gift Bible includes the following features:

  • An introduction to the Catholic spiritual life and to every book of the Bible
  • Full-color presentation pages for dedication and recording of family history
  • Sixteen pages of Bible maps
  • A concordance for finding key verses
  • Readable two-column design
  • Durable, leather-like binding—ideal for foil stamping a personalized name for gift giving
