Remember The Honey... Even From Rock

 

The Book of Deuteronomy can be described as a series of speeches in the voice of Moses. He is imparting final instructions to the Israelites as they stand at the edge of the Promised Land, ready to enter after so many years in the wilderness. He has many strong warnings to give them. Yet he also has a consoling message: Remember the honey. Remember that, even in the desert, you found the nourishment to sustain you; you were ‘nursed’ in the loving arms of God.

Remember the days of old…He sustained him in a desert land, in a howling wilderness waste… He set him upon the heights of the land, and fed him with the produce of the field; he nursed him with honey from the crags, with oil from flinty rock…
